Back in the mid-1960's, Dick Closner started a new
general contracting business in Marquette, Michigan.
During the early years, construction crews were hired on a per-job basis
to keep the company small and the jobs select. At the foundation
of Closner Construction was a reputation of high quality and
dependability.
We have grown since then. We're a corporation
now, with over 40 full time employees. Closner Construction crews
are found hard at work all over Michigan's Upper Peninsula on any size
job. Quality, workmanship and dependability are still the
trademarks of the company.
The present owners - who replaced the Closner family
structure in 1984 - have been active members of the firm since the 70s. We are members of the Associated General Contractors
of Michigan.
Labor is drawn from skilled and professionally trained union reserves so
projects can be completed on time. The firm supports
apprenticeship and other training programs so future labor pools will
have the necessary skills to maintain the Closner Construction
reputation into the future. We are also members of the Upper
Peninsula Construction Council which is an association of unions and
contractors working together to promote industry and job safety.
Safety is of primary importance. Our employees
continue to train through weekly Tool Box Safety meetings as well as
taking part in U.P. Safety Days sponsored by the Michigan Chapter A.G.C.
Employees are trained in lead and asbestos awareness as well as first
aid and C.P.R. training.
